Bertie by the Beach - written and illustrated by Mark Burrell

Bertie by the Beach is Mark’s first fully written and illustrated book. Every image within the book was carefully painted, a process that took approximately eighteen months to complete.

Mark describes the book as a magical rhyming story about a little crab named Bertie and his mermaid friends who live by the sea. Through Bertie’s adventures, we discover the many things he enjoys—watching television, going to the theatre, learning new dances, playing hide-and-seek, searching for pirate treasure, and making wishes under shooting stars with his human friends, among many other delights.

Playful and uplifting, the story carries a gentle message that highlights the importance of people, diversity, kindness, community, and friendship.
